A whirlwind of a fortnight back
by Jason on 22nd January 2010
Well, those two weeks are two that have been the most hectic two at university. Ever. I'm glad they're over, but I've had fun during them.
It's been so busy due to a rather insignificant piece of coursework. In this coursework, we had to modify a program which the tutor had written and had to make it work in the way that he wanted it to. Unfortunately, my tutor's grasp on the English language is limited (he is eastern European), and it seems that, at times he can be really annoying about documenting his programming. Much of the coursework involved guesswork and the shared brainpower of my entire class.
The coursework couldn't be said to be very interesting, either. In it, we had to make trains go across a weak opening bridge and interact with the computer's processor in such a way that it sucked all of the fun out of programming it.
Needless to say, many people in my class had problems trying to work out what happened and what was going on, and the few lucky ones who had "moments of clarity" suddenly decided that they didn't like anyone anymore and didn't help - however, they did get their comeuppance during the marking, where it seems several were unfairly knocked down to 40% of the mark.
My group of close friends and I worked together and helped each other out and from what I've seen so far, have got generally good marks.
Around the coursework, university life has resumed as normal, with more fun and more social. In my student accommodation, we've taken up some new hobbies, including artistry and food sampling - albeit drawing rubbish on the "communal sketchpad" and managing to eat large quantities of rice, porridge and washing up liquid in between. We've even been out to see movies in our spare time! For a full review of that, though, I'm going to have to point you to Pete's - he is ever more the movie critic.
Alas, the hour draws late and I tire. More tomorrow, hopefully.
Edit: site redesign. Not final, but I quite like it.
